Vintage Art Deco Steam Engine Lives To Mark 75th Anniversary Of Record

On July 3, 1938, a British A4 class steam locomotive named "Mallard" set the world speed record for steam locomotives at around 126 miles per hour.  That record (for steam power) still stands today.  In honor of that record, the Mallard met its six surviving sister A4 locomotives, and the BBC sent a correspondent along for a ride on one of these streamlined, Art Deco beauties.  They may not run at 126 MPH any more, but they look like they still could.

Flash Lightning

As posted on Pappy's Golden Age Comics Blogzine, Sure-Fire Comics introduced "Flash Lightning" in 1940.  Aside from the similarity to Flash Gordon, apparently legal problems with DC regarding its character, the Flash, led the creators to drop the F, and go with Lash Lightning.  Apparently, schooled in the sciences of ancient Egypt and an armed with an ancient weapon, he can hurl lightning to destroy the forces of evil.
