The Swing Shift Shuffle is a radio program of swing, big band, jazz, boogie woogie and other popular music from the 1930's and 40's that airs every Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (US Central Time) on WEVL 89.9 FM in Memphis, Tennessee, with a live webcast at wevl.org. In addition to the radio show, this blog is dedicated to all aspects of the Swing Era, including art, automobiles, cartoons, comics, history, movies, music, news, science, technology, and anything else that happened during that time. It also includes announcements about events in the Memphis/Mid-South area related to the Swing Era, such as classic movies, concerts, dances, lectures, etc. If you see something that fits the description, send it to me at tim@wevl.org. Vintage Theater, Pharmacy And Lunch Counter In Clinton, TN

Ritz Theatre Hoskins Drug
Mod Betty over at Retro Roadmap came across the Ritz Theatre in Clinton, TN last month.  Just northeast of Knoxville, this 1945 single screen movie theatre is open and showing movies, right next to an operating drug store and lunch counter of similar vintage.

Summertime Hops Continue

The Red Hot Lindy Hop lesson and session continues at the Rumba Room this Friday night.  Free beginner lesson at 7:00 p.m.  Free admission before 7:00 and $5 thereafter.

The University of Memphis RHLH chapter hosts a free beginner swing dance lesson every Monday (except school holidays) in Field House.  Beginner lesson at 7:30 p.m.  More information here.

July On TCM


The Hollywood Revue's has posted its preview of programming on TCM for July, and in celebration of Olivia de Havilland's 100th birthday on July 1, she is the Star of the Month, with her films airing every Friday night.  Ms. de Havilland has always been one of my favorite actresses.  There will also be a focus on Westerns, with nothing but "oaters" all day every Tuesday and Wednesday.
