Fourth Voyage Of Sinbad

One of the most interesting books I have ever read was One Thousand and One Nights, a/k/a Arabian Nights.  It is the overall story that contains many stories within stories, including those of "Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp," "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," and the "Seven Voyages of Sinbad."  To the best of my memory, this 1944 comic, posted on Four Color Shadows, is a fairly true telling of the Fourth Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor.

"The Movie" Memphis Belle Returns This Weekend

Get your flight jacket and put on your oxygen mask, an old friend returns to the skies over the Mid-South this weekend.  Officially named "The Movie" Memphis Belle, this B-17 served in the military from 1945 to 1959, after which she started her second career as a "water bomber" forest fire fighting aircraft until the late 1970's.  The Military Aircraft Restoration Corporation bought her in 1982, and restored her to resemble a B-17F.  In 1989, Hollywood hired the old girl to travel to England, and star in the movie Memphis Belle.  She has kept that livery ever since.  Her namesake is in Ohio being restored at the U.S. Air Force Museum.

Betty Boop: A Hunting We Will Go

Here is a Betty Boop cartoon I have neither posted nor seen before.  Betty sings about wanting a fur coat, so naturally, Bosko and Bimbo try to impress her by going hunting.  After several failed attempts, they get some pelts, but Betty feels sorry for the animals, gets mad at Bosko and Bimbo, and returns all the animals' coats, as can only happen in a cartoon.  From the Internet Archive, here is A Hunting We Will Go.

Leaders Of Der Atlantik Wall

The Nazi propaganda filmstrip Der Atlantik Wall makes another thematic change, now with pictures of high ranking German officials.  In the case of these two photos below, we have none other than (as far as we can tell) Fritz Todt, engineer, businessman, dedicated Nazi, and the founder of the Organization Todt, which not only built the Atlantic Wall, but also helped produce the filmstrip itself.
