This encore from 2012 demonstrates that the concept of reusing footage from old shows in a "flashback" episode is not new. In this Popeye cartoon from 1939, he and Bluto own competing penny arcades on the boardwalk, and in their attempts to woo Wimpy as a customer, they give him free access to their nickelodeons featuring clips from their previous cartoons.
