Bakelite For Victory

Tri-color Bakelite 'V' for Victory pin with 'Mother' in wire at the top. Gift of Rhoda and Roger Berkowitz, 2011.009
The National World War II Museum posted this interesting little item about Bakelite, an early form of plastic used in the 1930's-40's.  I always associate Bakelite with antique radio and furniture knobs, but it appears the substance, which was not rationed during WW2, was widely used to make patriotic jewelry like the V for Victory pin above.
