Boing Boing directed me to this slide show on
Wired featuring photos of
British auto racing in the 1930s. Those guys AND GALS drove with some serious intensity; and they did not bother with your newfangled, fancy/schmancy, technologically advanced safety equipment - like helmets or seat belts.
