The concept of reusing footage from old shows in a "flashback" episode is not new, as demonstrated by this Popeye cartoon from 1939. Popeye and Bluto own competing penny arcades on the boardwalk, and in their attempts to woo Wimpy as a customer, they give him free access to their nickelodeons featuring clips from their previous cartoons.
